Nervous System Mapping Workbook

Are you feeling disconnected, even though you’ve done a lot of inner-work?

You might notice patterns like…

  • Overthinking or urgency when things feel uncertain

  • Shutting down, numbing, or feeling emotionally foggy

  • People-pleasing or difficulty accessing your needs

  • Harsh self-judgment, even when you “know better”

These aren’t personal failures. They’re signs of a nervous system doing its best to keep you safe.

This workbook helps you understand the protection, so you can access yourself again.

Imagine what could shift if you understood your reactions instead of fighting them. If boundaries felt clearer because your body felt safer. If kindness toward yourself became a starting place… not a last resort.

Rootspace is where that begins.
This workbook isn’t about becoming “more.” It’s about learning how your system learned to survive, and meeting it with support.

This is a guided workbook designed to help you:

  • Understand your nervous system’s protective responses

  • Map triggers without shame or self-blame

  • Access body-based and mind-based support tools

  • Build self-trust through awareness, not force

It’s meant to be used slowly, revisited often, and adapted to what your system needs. There’s no right pace, no finish line, and no pressure to “do it perfectly.”

what is the nervous system mapping workbook?

what is included in the workbook?

This 32-page guided workbook blends nervous system education, gentle reflection, and practical support tools to help you understand how your body responds to stress and how reconnection becomes possible when safety increases. This isn’t a read-through workbook, it’s a lived-with tool you can return to whenever patterns resurface.

Inside, you’ll find:

Foundational Nervous System Education

Clear, accessible explanations of how the nervous system works, including why protection shows up as urgency, shutdown, people-pleasing, or disconnection — and why regulation is about flexibility, not staying calm.

Protective Pattern Mapping

Pages that help you identify the patterns your nervous system relies on most, what they’re trying to prevent, and what you lose access to when protection takes over — without shame or self-blame.

Trigger Awareness + Reframing

Guided exercises to map recent triggers, understand what your system is responding to, and soften harsh self-talk so protection doesn’t escalate further.

Body-Based Support Tools

Simple, effective practices to support regulation through sensation, breath, movement, and grounding, with clear guidance on how to use them + why they help.

Mind-Based Support + Language

Compassionate language and prompts that help your nervous system feel understood, reduce shame, and restore access to choice.

Capacity + Boundary Awareness

Tools to help you notice when your system has space (and when it doesn’t) so boundaries and self-choice feel supportive rather than threatening.

Environment + Co-Regulation

Exploration of how people, places, and environments impact your nervous system, and how connection supports regulation.

Personalized Reconnection Plan

A final integration page that brings everything together into a gentle, repeatable way to support yourself when patterns return.

About Meredith

When I began working as a therapist, much of my training focused on cognitive approaches — understanding thoughts, challenging beliefs, and changing patterns through insight. These models are valuable, and they help many people.

Over time, though, I noticed something important: insight alone isn’t always enough. When someone’s nervous system doesn’t feel safe, it’s incredibly hard to access higher-level processes like reframing thoughts, setting boundaries, or trusting yourself, no matter how much you understand what’s happening. Safety comes first.

As I deepened my understanding of the nervous system, it became clear that many of the struggles people bring into therapy aren’t about lack of effort or awareness. They’re about a body that learned to protect itself in certain ways… often long before there were words for it.

This workbook grew from that understanding. It’s the kind of foundation I return to again and again in my work with clients: learning how the nervous system responds to threat, how protection shows up in everyday patterns, and how access to choice, presence, and self-trust begins when the body feels supported.

I wanted to make this work available beyond the therapy room — in a way that’s gentle, self-paced, and respectful of your nervous system. This isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about understanding your body well enough to be on your own side.

I’m really glad you’re here.

Warmly,
Meredith
